Experience is one of the primary elements which a Commissioning Authority brings to the design, construction, and efficient operation process. Experience with building systems, how systems interact, proper operating procedures, etc., provide a Commissioning Authority the knowledge and understanding necessary to identify potential problems and verify their successful resolution.

3. A Commissioning Authority's Track Record

A Commissioning Authority with experience also provides a track record which can be analyzed to see the breadth and quality of their work. As an owner, it is beneficial to find a Commissioning Authority who not only has experience but has experience in buildings similar to your own project. Every building has its own requirements; it is important than a Commissioning Authority have the knowledge and flexibility to work within the needs of your project and not try to force a one-size fits all approach.

4. Whole Building Commissioning in Design, Construction & Warranty Phase

Experienced commissioning firms are also more likely to be knowledgeable of commissioning elements beyond mere construction phase HVAC system and lighting control commissioning. To limit commissioning only to these tasks is to lose much of the benefit of the commissioning process. Design phase commissioning allows potential problems to be identified earlier in the delivery process to allow the design team an opportunity to resolve before change order costs are incurred. The building envelope is a crucial element of every building that is often overlooked during commissioning. Air and moisture intrusion through the building envelope can cost major (and expensive to repair) damage to a building. In fact, over 80% of all lawsuits against designers are the result of moisture intrusion in the building envelope. Warranty phase commissioning extends the commissioning process to occupancy, allowing for optimization of energy consuming components and verification of building performance during the the warranty period and for the life of the building.

A graduate from Florida State University and Georgia Institute of Technology, his skills and expertise are sure to bring fresh new ideas to the team.

Kyle, a University of Southern Mississippi alumni, is our newest addition and is also diving head first into the projects he has been assigned. His extensive knowledge and experience in construction management will be very beneficial in furthering the holistic approaches of CxGBS!
