FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CxGBS to Provide Commissioning and LEED Consulting Services for the Streets of Buckhead
ATLANTA, GA., (February 12, 2008) — Commissioning and Green Building Solutions, Inc. (CxGBS), an Atlanta-based commissioning and green building consulting firm, will provide Holistic Commissioning™ and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) consulting services for portions of The Streets of Buckhead, a $1.2 billion redevelopment of the former Buckhead Village in Atlanta.
The Streets of Buckhead, which will contain 500,000 square feet of luxury retail, restaurants, hotels and Class A office space, is being developed by Ben Carter Properties, an Atlanta-based full service commercial real estate firm. CxGBS will provide services for the retail portion of the project, which can be expanded to include mixed use high rise, offices and residential condominiums.
Upscale retailers in The Streets of Buckhead include AG Adriano Goldschmidt, Domenici Dacca, Hermes, Metro, and Bodega Veneto.
“While LEED certification is not new for many types of facilities, it is very new for mixed-use occupancies such as The Streets of Buckhead,” said H. J. Enck, principal and founder of CxGBS. “The project will be one of the first large retail developments to receive this certification.”
Among the highlights for retail tenants:
- Rainwater will be collected for cooling towers to reduce the use of valuable potable water and reduce demand on storm water in the structures.
- Planned plumbing fixtures will be selected to reduce water consumption by more than 40 percent.
- Planned interior finishes will improve indoor environmental quality
- A 22 percent energy use reduction is anticipated – more than twice the minimum energy efficiency required for LEED certification
CxGBS has executed the building commissioning process for more than $1.5 billion worth of construction projects. The firm’s Holistic Commissioning approach, which will be employed at The Streets of Buckhead, goes beyond standard building commissioning procedures by examining the design process and re-evaluating buildings years after they are completed.
“Holistic commissioning integrates sustainability while making sure that the quality-oriented process is being delivered to meet the owner’s expectations for the facility, “ said Enck. "We provide guidance to the project teams to explore solutions that will lower the cost of ownership and create healthy conditions for occupants.”
