Project Overview:
Located on a 4.25 acre site, the facility is a new addition to a series of existing aircraft rescue fire facilities at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The fire station is the City of Atlanta’s first public building to apply sustainable development principles using the LEED rating system. The station achieved LEED Certification in July of 2007. The cconstruction of the facility served as a driver to improve marketability for construction waste products.
Sustainable Design Features:
- Reduction of construction waste by 75 percent
- Utilization of wood construction waste mulch to control sedimentation and erosion during construction and for landscaping
- Increased building envelope insulation combined with mass wall construction
- High efficiency glazing
- High efficiency lighting design
- Lighting controls including dimming and motion detectors
- High efficiency air conditioning and heat pump units
- Demand-based ventilation using CO2 levels to determine rate of ventilation for each zone
