Project Overview:
Great care went into the design and construction of The Suites to reduce its environmental impact in both construction and through the life of the building. Following are some of the features implemented on the project to increase its sustainability. |
The Suites is a 303 bed student residence hall at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Completed in fall of 2008, The Suites was designed to showcase the school's ongoing committment to sustainability. Spelman is an historically Black college for women founded in 1881.Sustainable Design Features:
- 20% reduction in energy consumption
- Over 30% reduction indoor water consumption
- Implementation of green housekeeping and site management procedures
- Installation of white roofing materials and completely underground parking to reduce the Urban Heat Island Effect
- Implementation of a Measurement & Verification plan to track building's energy performance against initial goals
